"Dinner's ready!" David called from the kitchen.

Sarah jumped, nearly dropping the heavy book. She closed the cover slowly, her fingers lingering on the title. *The Echo of Us.* It was all there, the private moments, the unspoken thoughts, the things she thought only *she* knew about her and David.

She forced a smile and entered the kitchen, feigning normalcy. "Smells good," she said, her voice sounding unnaturally high. She busied herself with setting the table, her movements precise and deliberate, as if controlling the world was the only way to retain balance.

Her gaze kept flicking towards him. Each smile, each casual conversation felt forced. Every passing comment, every gentle touch had a new, sinister weight.
